Butler County Community College golfer Mitchell Covert fired a 72 on Friday and earned medalist honor as the Pioneers swept two opponents in advance of seeking their fifth consecutive postseason conference championship this week.
Covert won by 2 strokes as an individual and BC3 by 2 strokes as a team against Westmoreland County Community College at the Windber Country Club near Johnstown.
BC3 had a team total of 304, Westmoreland a 306 and the Community College of Allegheny County a 353.
The four lowest scores of golfers on each squad are totaled to arrive at a team score. Mason Phillips and Jeremy Scheidt had 76s for the Pioneers, and Parker Worsley an 80.
With the win, the Pioneers improved to 10-3 and will compete against Westmoreland and CCAC in the fall season-ending Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship tournament Monday and Tuesday at the Links at Spring Church, Apollo.
Covert will be the Pioneers’ top seed. He finished in second place in the 2024 conference championship tournament after winning the third hole of a sudden-death playoff.
