The Butler boys track and field team won the Class 3A WPIAL championship Tuesday. It was their 12th overall league title, two behind North Allegheny for the most all-time. Butler held off Seneca Valley 76-74 to win the championship. Butler defeated Norwin 79-71 and Hempfield 98-52.
Brandon Eicher and Kevin Shriver won two events each to help lead Butler. Eicher won the Mile and 2-Mile runs. Shriver took the 100 and 200-meter sprints.
Butler won the 4×800 relay to begin the event, and won the 4×400 relay to close the championship effort.
The Golden Tornado are led by long-time head coach Mike Seybert, who was recently honored with induction into the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.
The North Catholic girls swept Quaker Valley, Laurel and Burrell to win the Class 2A WPIAL title.
