WPIAL Individual Track and Field Championships at Slippery Rock University Wednesday:
The Butler Boys came home with victories in eight events.
–Butler’s Guinness Brown won the 400-meter run and was runner-up in the 200. Lucas Slear took third in the 400.
–CJ Singleton won the 3,200 and 1,600-meter runs and was runner-up in the 800. Singleton set a WPIAL record in the 1,600 with a time of 4:09.95. Teammate Sage Vavro was third. Drew Griffith was third in the 3,200.
–The Golden Tornado won the 1,600 and 3,200-meter relay events.
In the Field:
–Tyler Rekich won the Long Jump.
–Tristan McGarrah won the Pole Vault.
In Class 2A — North Catholic’s Trevor Paschall won the 100-meter dash. Luke Mager won the 200 and was third in the 100.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for the PIAA championships May 27th & 28th at Shippensburg University.
The Butler Boys will compete in 11 of the 18 events next week!
Seneca Valley’s Tyler Yurich was third in the 100-meter run. Luke Simpson was runner-up behind Singleton in the 1,600. Jonathan Price was runner-up in the Triple Jump.
Freeport’s Isaac Wetzel was third in the 300-meter Hurdles.
In the Class 3A Girls championships:
–Butler’s Megan Penrod won the Javelin. Alli Morrow was runner-up in the Long Jump. Megan Baggetta was third in the Triple Jump. Knoch’s Madison Hunt was runner-up in the Shot Put.
In Class 2A:
–North Catholic’s Tehya Dave won the 100-meter Dash and was runner-up in the 200 and 400. Ava Smith was third in the Triple Jump.
