The Butler Junior Varsity hockey team captured the PIHL Division 3 championship with an 8-0 victory over Morgantown Thursday night at the Ice Castle Arena in Castle Shannon. Aden Devore and Lucas Hensler led the Golden Tornado with two goals each. Harper Slater and Kaiden Vorel shared the shutout in goal for Butler, who completed a perfect season of 17-0-2. (team had only two seniors in Vorel and Willie Parker).
Seneca Valley goaltender Christopher Nichols was named one of six to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s season-ending All-Star hockey team. Nichols was named the paper’s Player of the Year after leading the Raiders to the PIHL and state championships. He was 12-2 with a 1.38 goals-against average during the season, with three shutouts.
