A Butler City restaurant is petitioning the state for a special liquor license.
The owner of the Chop Shop on Main Street in downtown Butler has applied for an economic development restaurant liquor license.
To qualify for this type of license, City Council passed a resolution Thursday night that the restaurant serves economic development for the area. The restaurant also has to prove that at least 50 percent of its revenue comes from food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Only two such non-transferable licenses can be issued by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in each county each year. The timeline for a decision is not known.
