The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Texas Rangers 8-4 last night. Oneil Cruz had a three-run home run taken away by a great catch the night before, but hit a three-run shot in the ninth inning to give the Pirates the victory.
Braxton Ashcraft started for the Bucs. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five. Reliever Gregory Soto earned the victory despite allowing two runs in the eighth inning. Dennis Santana closed the game by striking out two of three batters he faced.
Bryan Reynolds drove in a run in the Pirates’ three-run fifth inning, the 500th RBI of his career. It tied him with Bobby Bonilla for the most among Pirates switch-hitters, while also making him the fourth Pirate to hit that mark this century, joining Brian Giles, Kevin Young and Andrew McCutchen.
The two teams complete their three-game series tonight at 8:05pm. WISR pre-game begins at 7:40pm. Bubba Chandler starts for the Pirates tonight. Jacob DeGrom will start for the Rangers.
