In the PIAA basketball playoffs:
–The Karns City, North Catholic and Slippery Rock girls have reached the Western Region Second Round following First Round wins over the weekend.
–Karns City defeated Seton LaSalle 37-2 in their Class 3A First Round game played at Moniteau.
–Slippery Rock defeated Elizabeth Forward 54-46. The Rockets will meet WPIAL champion Oakland Catholic Wednesday.
–North Catholic defeated Forest Area 50-37. The Trojanettes will face Harbor Creek Wednesday.
–The Seneca Valley boys had their season come to a close following a 69-62 loss to Red Lion near York Saturday. The Raiders stumbled in the second quarter, when they were outscored 21-9. Red Lion will now meet WPIAL champion Upper St. Clair in the Class 6A Second Round.
The Knoch and North Catholic boys basketball teams will meet for a fourth time this season in the Class 4A Second Round. The game will be played Tuesday at Plum high school. Tip-off is 7:30pm. Hear the game on WISR beginning at 7:15pm. Plum will be the site of two state playoff games that night. Karns City will face Central Cambria in the girls Class 3A Second Round beginning at 6pm.
Friday night – Knoch defeated Girard 46-30 in their Class 4A First Round game in Saxonburg. North Catholic defeated Sharon 64-52. The Trojans pulled away with a 30-19 third quarter.
