The Knoch boys basketball team won the first WPIAL championship in their program history last night following a 48-35 victory over Quaker Valley at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh. The Knights held a Quaker Valley team that averaged more than 62 points per game this season with another strong defensive effort, and took control when they went on an 11-0 run in the second half.
The Knoch boys will open the PIAA tournament next Friday. They will host an opponent from District 10.
In their Class 6A WPIAL Consolation game last night, the Seneca Valley girls fell 50-39 to Upper St. Clair.
The Moniteau boys basketball team will face Port Allegheny tonight in a District 9 Class 2A Consolation game. Tip-off is 7:30pm at Dubois high school. The winner earns a spot in the state tournament.
The Karns City and Cranberry girls basketball teams meet for the Class 3A District 9 title Saturday at 11am. The game is being played at PennWest-Clarion’s Tippin Gymnasium.
The WPIAL Swimming championships began Thursday at the Pitt Trees Pool. Dom Davis of Mars brought home a WPIAL title when he won the Triple-A – 50-yard Freestyle event. Adrian Lavorini of Knoch was a runner-up in the Class 2A – 200 Individual Medley. The Knoch 200 Medley Relay team took third.
