Kyle Busch won the pole for Nascar’s season-opening Daytona 500 last night for a race he has never won in 20 years of trying. The two-time former Cup Series champion finished runner-up to then-teammate Denny Hamlin when Busch drove for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2019, but carries an 0-for-20 streak into this weekend’s race.
Busch now drives for Richard Childress Racing. He also carries a 93-race winless streak into the Daytona 500. Last year’s pole sitter, Chase Briscoe qualified second last night, ironically for Joe Gibbs Racing.
The Daytona Duel qualifying races will be held tonight to determine the starting field for Sunday’s race. 39 cars are locked into the field. Six other drivers will be attempting to earn the final two spots for the race. Coverage of the qualifying races begins tonight at 6pm on WBUT.
The Daytona 500 will air on WBUT Sunday beginning at 1:30pm.
