In basketball playoff games Monday:
–The North Catholic girls basketball team defeated Laurel Highlands 67-21 to open the WPIAL Class 4A playoffs. Brady Wehner led North Catholic with 20 points and they improved to 18-5 this season. The Trojanettes will face Beaver in the Quarterfinal Round Thursday.
–The Freeport girls had their season end following a 49-18 loss on the road to South Park, also in the Class 4A First Round last night.
Last night in Class 6A boys basketball:
–Mt. Lebanon defeated Pine-Richland 55-42 in the WPIAL First Round. The victory earned Mt. Lebo a match-up with top-seed and 21-1 New Castle Thursday.
–Fox Chapel ousted Norwin 52-49, also in the 6A First Round. The Foxes will meet 21-1 Upper St. Clair Thursday.
The Portersville Christian girls defeated Cheswick Christian 46-20 in the quarterfinal round of the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference tournament.
