The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens took a 3-0 lead in the first period, led by Rickard Rakell, who opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the season. Anthony Mantha added his 30th goal of the year four minutes later.
12 Penguins players recorded points in the game.
Stuart Skinner stopped 22 of 23 shots in net for the Pens.
The victory comes on the heels of the Penguins win against the Islanders Monday night, and has given them a three point lead over New York for second place in the Metropolitan Division. The Pens also lead Columbus by four points with seven games remaining in their regular season.
The Islanders, Blue Jackets, Senators and Flyers all lost last night.
Evgeni Malkin returned from injury last night and recorded his 1,399th career point.
The Pens did play without Bryan Rust last night after he had two points in New York Monday night.
The Penguins visit the Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday, then have back-to-back games this weekend against Florida at PPG Paints Arena.
