The Pittsburgh Pirates blew an early five-run lead and lost 7-6 to the Chicago Cubs Sunday. Second baseman Brandon Lowe aided the early lead with a grand slam in the second inning. But, the Pirates bullpen allowed the Cubs to chip away at the early lead, and they won the game with two runs in the eighth and a walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth.
The Pirates were 1-for-8 with Runners in Scoring Position yesterday.
Bubba Chandler started for the Bucs Sunday. He pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out four.
The Pirates took two of three games in the series and have returned home to open a seven-game homestand tonight. They host the Washington Nationals for the first four games at PNC Park. Game time is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Paul Skenes will start for the Pirates.
The Bucs are 9-6 overall, and are in first place in the National League Central Division. They lead Milwaukee by a half game.
