The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 last night. Arizona broke open a 2-1 game when they scored four runs off reliever Duane Underwood in the bottom of the seventh inning before the Pirates made it close again when Michael Chavis hit a three-run home run in the eighth. Chavis also hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. Pirates starting pitcher Zach Thompson allowed two earned runs on five hits while pitching into the fifth inning and took the loss. He is now 3-9 this season.
The Bucs and Diamondbacks play again tonight at 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm. The series wraps up with a late afternoon game Thursday.
Rookie second baseman Rodolfo Castro lost a cell phone out of his back pocket while sliding into third base during the game. He went 0-for-3 in the game, but got on base via a walk.
