The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 last night. The Bucs used six different pitchers in the game as they prepare to finalize their roster in preparation for opening day next Thursday in New York. The Pirates final spring training game in Bradenton is Monday.
The Pirates sent catcher Endy Rodriguez down to Triple-A Indianapolis Thursday. 36 active players remain in camp.
Pirates manager Don Kelly announced Thursday that reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes will be the starting pitcher when the Pirates open their season against the New York Mets.
The Pirates will visit Atlanta in North Port, Florida for a major league roster game tonight at 6:05pm. A “Spring Breakout” Game featuring prospects, including Konnor Griffin, will feature the Detroit Tigers top prospects in Bradenton at 7:35pm. That game will be televised on Sports Net Pittsburgh.
