The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 6-5 in 10-innings to the Miami Marlins Sunday afternoon at PNC Park. The Pirates scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to force the extra inning, but were outscored 2-1 in the 10th. Reliever David Bednar took the loss.
The Bucs were outhit 11 to six in the game, and struck out 18 times. Starting pitcher Mitch Keller allowed three earned runs over six innings. He struck out seven.
The Marlins took two of three games in the weekend series. Their record is now 40-56 overall.
The Pirates have moved on to Chicago’s Wrigley Field where they will face the Cubs for two games beginning with tonight’s first pitch at 8:05pm. WISR pre-game is 7:40pm.
The Pirates should see the return of outfielder Bryan Reynolds from the Injured List this week. He has been out of the lineup with a strained muscle since July 11th.
