The Pittsburgh Pirates could not complete the sweep of the Cincinnati Reds as they lost 2-1 yesterday. The Pirates offense struck out 14 times in the game.
Starter Braxton Ashcraft went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs.
The Pirates wrap up their season this weekend in Atlanta. First pitch at 7:15 p.m. tonight.
The Atlanta Braves also announced that Charlie Morton will start the game on Sunday against the Pirates. The 41-year-old Morton spent five years with Atlanta and seven with the Pirates. He’s expected to retire after the season.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The National League Wild Card remains relatively the same as yesterday. The New York Mets defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-5 to maintain a one-game lead over the Reds. The Arizona Diamondbacks lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers and are now two games back.
This weekend the Reds visit Milwaukee, the Mets are at Miami, and the Diamondbacks are at San Diego.
In the American League, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Cleveland Guardians. Both teams have identical records heading into the final weekend. Cleveland hosts Texas…Detroit is on the road at Boston.
The Houston Astros remain one-game behind the Tigers for the final wild card spot—they visit Los Angeles to take on the Angels.
