The Pittsburgh Pirates begin their final week of spring training this week. The Bucs visit the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers this afternoon at 1:05pm. The Pirates fell 6-1 Sunday to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Konnor Griffin provided the Pirates lone run with his fourth home run of the pre-season in the fourth inning. The team managed just four hits in the game. Jose Urquidy started for the Bucs. He allowed three runs on six hits.
The Pirates are 15-7 overall in Grapefruit League play.
Team USA defeated the Dominican Republic 2-1 last night in the World Baseball Classic semifinals. The game ended on a likely missed called strike from western Pennsylvania native Mason Miller. Review, which has arrived in Major League Baseball this season, is not being used for this tournament. All of the runs scored in the game came via solo home runs. Paul Skenes allowed a solo home run in the second inning. The USA team hit two solo home runs in the fourth inning. Skenes pitched 4-1/3rd innings, allowing six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two.
Italy and Venezuela play in the other semifinal tonight at 8pm. The game will be televised on FS1.
The winner plays Team USA for the title Tuesday. Game time is 8pm on FOX.
