The Pittsburgh Pirates dealt left-handed starting pitcher Jose Quintana and right-handed reliever Chris Stratton to the St. Louis Cardinals last night in exchange for right-handed reliever Johan Oviedo and minor league corner infielder Malcom Nunez, who is currently in Double-A.
The Pirates had signed Quintana to a $2 million contract during the off-season. He had gone 3-5 with a 3.50 ERA until the trade.
The Bucs open a three-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:40pm.
Among the other MLB trades prior to today’s deadline:
–Milwaukee traded closer Josh Hader to the San Diego Padres.
–The New York Yankees acquired Oakland starting pitcher Frankie Montas and closer Lou Trivino in exchange for four prospects. Trivino is a Slippery Rock University graduate.
