The Pittsburgh Pirates shut-out the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 Sunday afternoon at PNC Park which produced another series victory with the Bucs taking two of three games over the weekend. Rookie outfielder Cal Mitchell hit his first major league home run. Jack Suwinski had a three hit game, including two doubles. Suwinski had a walk-off home run that gave the Pirates a victory on Saturday. Starting pitcher Zach Thompson did not allow a run on four hits over his five innings of work to earn his third victory of the year. David Bednar pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 10th save.
The Pirates are 5-1 in their past six games. They have an off-day today, then host the Detroit Tigers for two games Tuesday and Wednesday. The Pirates are now 24-28 overall.
The Pirates recalled outfielder Travis Swaggerty from Triple-A Indianapolis over the weekend and optioned infielder Rodolfo Castro. The 24-year old Swaggerty was a Pirates #1-draft pick, taken 10th overall in 2018. He had hit .357 over his past 18 games.
Former Pirates #1-draft pick Cole Tucker has been claimed by the Diamondbacks. Tucker was designated for assignment last week
