The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Baltimore Orioles 8-2 Sunday to complete a three-game series sweep of the home-opening series.
Ryan O’Hearn and Oneil Cruz hit home runs in the game. O’Hearn drove in four runs and now has three home runs in nine games this season. Cruz has four. He drove in three runs Sunday. Braxton Ashcraft earned the victory on the mound for the Bucs. He allowed one run on four hits over six innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight.
The Pirates defeated the Orioles 3-2 Saturday and won 5-4 in Friday’s home opener.
The Pirates have now won five games in a row and open a three-game series with the San Diego Padres tonight. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Bubba Chandler will start for the Bucs.
In his debut weekend – top prospect in baseball Konnor Griffin has gone 1-9 with two walks, two strikeouts a run and an RBI. He had a double in his debut game Friday. Defensively, the Pirates had not turned a double play in their first six games of the season. They have now turned four, with Griffin being a part of three of them.
The Pirates have placed infielder Jared Triolo on the Injured List with a knee injury, and recalled Billy Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis.
