The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-2 Sunday afternoon at PNC Park, completing a four-game series sweep. It was the Bucs seventh loss in a row.
Pirates starting pitcher JT Brubaker allowed seven earned runs on 12 hits before being pulled with one out in the fifth inning. Kevin Newman had three hits to lead the Bucs. Cal Mitchell had two more hits. Each had a double.
The Pirates are off today and then will host the first-place Milwaukee Brewers beginning Tuesday.
The MLB trade deadline is tomorrow. Eight trades have been made thus far, with the biggest from the weekend seeing Cincinnati sending pitcher Luis Castillo to Seattle in exchange for four players.
