Governor Josh Shapiro has joined another lawsuit against the federal government, this time for denying unemployment benefits.
The multi-state lawsuit argues the Federal Governments termination of federal funding for unemployment benefits were unlawful.
The additional funding dollars are to improve the unemployment system to help prevent fraud, improve access, and ensure eligible workers receive benefits. This funding comes from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) signed into law during the Biden administration.
In May, the Department of Labor terminated the grants stating they no longer aligned with the department’s priorities.
15 other states have joined the lawsuit alongside Pennsylvania.
