Venezuela defeated the United States 3-2 last night in Miami to win the World Baseball Classic. Venezuela built a 2-0 lead through seven innings, when Bryce Harper hit a two-run home run for the United States in the bottom of the eighth inning. Venezuela won the game with a run in the top of the ninth to win their first WBC title. Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes was named to the all-tournament team.
The Houston Astros defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-2 in exhibition baseball Tuesday. Mitch Keller was roughed up for six earned runs on four hits over four innings. He walked four and struck out six. Keller allowed two home runs.
The Bucs host Detroit tonight for a night game in Bradenton. First pitch is 6:05pm. Braxton Ashcraft will start for the Pirates.
